Haven't we all secretly wished for a drink that helps to boost immunity while keeping us hydrated during the summers? If you are bored with drinking plain water, here is a cool and refreshing drink, loaded with nutrients, that you must try this summer. This delicious drink is made with fresh coconut water and citrus fruits and sweetened with honey.
WHY SHOULD I DRINK THE CITRUS COCONUT DRINK?
As the name suggests the main beverage used in this drink is coconut water. Coconut water is the healthiest drink on the planet. It has natural electrolytes like potassium, sodium, and manganese, hence it is great for keeping us hydrated. Additionally, it has antioxidants, good for heart health, keeps blood pressure in control, and great for diabetics too.
The drink also has citrus fruits like lemon, orange, and lime. Citrus fruits are a great source of fibers, loaded with vitamins and minerals, and low in calories.
The drink does not contain any artificial sweetening agent instead honey is used to flavor the drink. Honey is a natural sweetener that is a concentrated source of energy and ancient remedy for health and healing.
Aside from the health benefits, the sweet and tart flavor of the citrus fruits work really well with
the freshness of coconut water and makes it an ideal drink for summer
parties. Also. the drink looks really pretty too!
ABOUT THE DRINK
The drink is pretty basic and requires no special ingredient. Here is what you need to make this drink:
1. Coconut water - I have used fresh coconut water but if you do not have it at home, you can use store bought unflavored coconut water without any added sugar. You can get some really good packaged coconut water in the grocery stores now.
2. Citrus fruits - I have used lemon, lime, and orange in this drink. You can use any citrus fruit of your choice.
3. Honey - Avoiding sugar to sweeten our beverages is a great way of cutting down on our daily sugar intake. Honey is a natural sweetener that is known to have other health benefits. Especially good is Manuka honey. A word of caution here is that honey is delicious and sweet like sugar and not that bad but it is still high in calories. So, if you are diabetic, skip it.
4. Himalayan pink salt - It is the purest salt on earth. It flushes out the toxins in the body, improving hormonal balance and helping in digestion. If you cannot get your hands on it, use normal table salt.
5. Mint leaves - I have used mint leaves for garnishing because they add a natural freshness to any drink. They are also known to have anti-inflammatory properties that can naturally soothe our system.
